Clarissa Augustinus

Dr. Augustinus is the Key driver of the Global Land Tool Network, focusing on the development of innovative pro poor land tools. The network has 50 international and regional partners, including multi-laterals such as the World Bank and FAO, bilaterals such as Norway and Sweden who are the key funders, professional organizations, such as the International Federation of Surveyors, Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy, F'e9d'e9ration des G'e9om'e8tres Francophones, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, training and research institutions and international civil society and civil society organizations such as SDI and the Huariou Commission. Dr. Augustinus was previously a Senior Lecturer, at the School of Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, focusing on Land Management. She has been an international consultant on land management and administration from an institutional perspective and is the author of 3 chapters in books, and over 44 papers. She has a Ph.D in Social Anthropology on customary and informal land tenure in an informal settlement in Africa.

Remy Sietchiping

GLTN Project Leader within the Land and GLTN Unit Remy Sietchiping holds a Ph.D in geography from the University of Melbourne (Australia). Within the Network, he coordinates work on tool development processes particularly related to access to land and tenure security, land management and planning, land information, land policy and legislation and land-based financing. Dr. Sietchiping also works on environment and climate change, land indicators, post-conflicts contexts, capacity development and land governance. Remy also oversees the communications, resources mobilization and publications of the Network. He has over 18 years working experience working on various areas including in land information, land management, urban planning and environmental sciences gained working in the UN systems, academia, private sector, public sector and NGOs in Australia, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Jamaica and Kenya. Dr. Sietchiping has over 40 publications including books, peer-reviewed articles, papers in proceedings and reports. He speaks French and English.

Jean du Plessis
Capacity Building Expert (Land),

As the GLTN capacity building expert, Jean du Plessis is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of the GLTN Capacity Development Strategy. He also serves as focal point for GLTN on developing and implementing pro-poor and gender responsive alternatives to forced eviction. Jean is from South Africa and holds an MA degree from the University of Stellenbosch. He has over 20 years of experience in the land, housing and development sectors and has published variously on land, housing, restitution, forced evictions and development. He worked closely with South African communities resisting forced removal under apartheid and, after 1994, pursuing land rights, reconstruction and development. He was the chief director of the South African land restitution programme from 1997-2000. In 2000-2001 he worked in the UN Land and Property Unit in East Timor, after which he joined the Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions in Geneva. From 2008 he worked as an independent researcher, facilitator and trainer for a variety of institutions including the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the South African Government and the African Centre for Cities, and a number of U.N. agencies.
