On 23rd June 2016, UN-Habitat through the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) for the first time convened an Inter-Agency workshop that brought together key partners working on land, natural resources and environmental management. The half day meeting held at the UN Complex in Nairobi brought together more than 25 experts from the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and UN-Habitat.

The purpose of the meeting was to bring together key Agencies working on Land, Natural Resources and Environmental Management for information sharing and joint learning on areas of work, influence and possible areas for inter-agency collaboration. Specifically the meeting sought to get a deeper understanding of each agency’s work and respective spheres of influence and explored ideas of possible technical areas of cooperation, with discussions held on each agency’s interpretation of the work of others and what added value could be brought to the table. This was also an opportunity for the different agencies to get clarity on potential areas of joint collaboration on land, the environment and natural resources.

Among the issues discussed were the key issues of technical interest that bring the organizations together and the main strategies that could be exploited to foster partnerships and possible future collaborations, as well as the intended outcomes of these possible collaborations.
